PARENTS CORNER
PARENTS’ RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Make every effort to provide for the physical needs of your child.
  • Teach your child to obey the rules.
  • Strive to prepare your child to be receptive to learning and discipline.
  • Ensure your child’s compliance with school attendance requirements and promptly report and explain any absences or tardiness to school.
  • Encourage your child to develop good study habits at home.
  • Participate in parent-teacher meetings to discuss your child’s school progress and welfare.
  • Keep informed of school policies and academic requirements of school programmes.
  • Be sure your child is appropriately dressed for school and school related activities.
  • Discuss report cards and assignments with your child.
  • Bring to the attention of school authorities any learning  problems or conditions that may relate to your child’s   education.
  • Maintain an up-to-date home, work and emergency telephone numbers and other pertinent information for school records.
PARENT- TEACHER MEETINGS

Individual teacher meetings may be scheduled by calling the school office and requesting the teacher to return your call to set up a time to meet.

PARENT- TEACHER CONFERENCES

All parents, teachers and other staff are automatically members of the PTA. Parent - Teacher conferences are held once a term and are scheduled as part of the school calendar. Parents are encouraged to attend to learn more about the school and how they can support its programmes. A circular is sent out through the pupils announcing the dates and times for all meetings.

VISITORS

Visitors in the buildings or school grounds must be cleared by the security officer at the gate.

MESSAGES

Emergency messages only will be delivered to pupils. Pupils should communicate with parents prior to coming to school regarding transportation home.

SCHOOL FEES

At least 50% of terms school fees must be paid on or before reopening. Fees must be settled in full before mid-term holidays. Defaulters will be made to pay a penalty of 10% on the outstanding amount.

LOST AND FOUND

All lost and found items must be sent to the office for announcements to be made concerning them.

EMERGENCY PLANS

Fire Alarm- An intermittent bell is the signal to follow the emergency plan exit. Pupils are expected to leave the classroom in a quiet orderly manner. Pupils must stay in the designated area with their class until the return signal is given. The return signal is the class bell.

In case of an earth tremor or earthquake, pupils and teachers can initially take cover under desks or tables and remain inside buildings till further instructions.

ILLNESS OR INJURY DURING SCHOOL DAYS

Pupils who are injured at school or who become too ill to remain in class should report their injury/illness to their teacher. Teachers will send pupils to the nurse at the Sickbay. Parents will be contacted if a pupil is unable to remain in school. Emergency cases will be referred to the Dansoman Polyclinic near by or to Korle-bu Teaching Hospital if need be.

The following information will help pupils find help in appropriate places:

For a personal, social, emotional or academic problems — Class teacher
Problem with a teacher — Principal / Vice Principal
Having difficulty with a subject — Class teacher
Need information for a project or assignment — Library/Computer Lab.
Want to leave school early — Class teacher, for onward transmission to Principal or Vice principal.
To make a phone call — Principal, through secretary.
Concern about a health problem — School Nurse
To pay for a lost or damaged book — Accountant, through store keeper.
Want to join an extracurricular activity — Class teacher or club patron.
