PROSPERO AND EUROQUEST ASSESSMENT

All JH 1 pupils are required to take Prospero, a Thinking and Learning Style Assessment, during the 1st term. All JH 2 pupils are required to take Euroquest, a Career and Aptitude Assessment, during the 3rd term.  These help teachers and parents to better guide pupils in their acquisition of knowledge and choice of subjects in line with career options best suited to them.

EXCURSIONS/ FIELD TRIPS

These are important aspects of the school programme and pupils are expected to participate fully. If the excursion or field trip will take place outside of school hours, a circular will be sent to parents requesting permission.

REMEDIAL CLASSES
The school offers remedial help to pupils needing it at extra cost. Parents should contact the school for assistance if they wish their children to receive remedial help.
HOMEWORK
Homework is an extension of the regular school day. Whenever homework is given, it is to supplement, complement, reinforce, and relate to the mastery of a subject. Homework is a vital part of the learning process.
Pupils and their parents/guardians also have responsibility for the pupils’ mastery of the subject matter. The learning process is a joint effort.

Parents can do their part to improve homework by:
  • Cooperating with the school to make homework effective.
  • Providing their child with suitable study conditions (desk or table, light, books and supplies.)
  • Reserving a time for homework.
  • Encouraging their child, but avoiding undue pressure.
  • Showing interest in what their child is doing, but not doing the work for them.
  • Understanding that the school expects homework to be completed and returned on time.
  • Appending their signature to every assignment done.

The pupil’s responsibility is to complete all homework assignments and turn them in on the designated due date.

The following are examples of homework assignments given to pupils at Dayspring.

  • Independent practice of newly learned skills
  • Independent practice to reinforce learned skills
  • Introduction of new material (such as the reading of a chapter in the text with a stated purpose for the reading)
  • Independent or group projects
Parents shall be notified when a pupil repeatedly fails to complete and submit homework assignments. This situation is not encouraged
OPEN DAY

Once a term, before examinations are conducted, there is an open day for parents and guardians to interact with their wards and their teachers in the classroom. They are given the opportunity to go through their ward’s exercise books and raise any difficulties they have with the teachers.
